The Administrator shall continue to provide opportunities for formal and informal STEM education engagement activities within the Office of NASA STEM Engagement and other NASA directorates, including— the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research; the Minority University Research and Education Project; and the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program. The Administrator, in partnership with museums, nonprofit organizations, and commercial entities, shall, to the maximum extent practicable, leverage human spaceflight missions, Deep Space Exploration Systems (including the Space Launch System, Orion, and Exploration Ground Systems), and NASA science programs to engage students at the kindergarten through grade 12 and higher education levels to pursue learning and career opportunities in STEM fields.
Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Administrator shall brief the appropriate committees of Congress on— the status of the programs described in subsection (a); and the manner by which each NASA STEM education engagement activity is organized and funded. In this section, the term STEM education has the meaning given the term in section 2 of the STEM Education Act of 2015 ( Public Law 114–59 ; 42 U.S.C. 6621 note).
