It is the sense of the Senate that dedicated funding for coding courses in kindergarten through grade 12 education should be a top priority. It is the sense of the Senate that the Secretary of Education should use the authority granted under section 114(e) of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006, as in effect on July 1, 2019, to award innovation and modernization grants. The use of such innovation and modernization grant funds for coding programs are especially important for rural and underserved areas that don’t have access to coding resources in order to close the skills gap.
These grants are opportunities for rural America to learn to read and write code to prepare students for the jobs of the future.
