Chap. XLV.— An Act *for the relief of Charles H. Atherton.* June 22, 1842. *Be it enacted, &c*., That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and heAmount paid for land to which the U. S. could not give him a title, to be refunded. hereby is, authorized and directed to pay to Charles H. Atherton, or to his legal representatives, out of any money in the treasury not other-wise appropriated, the sum of two thousand three hundred thirty-three dollars and eighty-six cents, it being for money paid by the said Atherton for public land entered by him in the St.
Helena land district, in Louisiana, to which the United States are unable to give him a title, or to correctlyProviso. locate the same: *Provided*, That said Charles II. Atherton, or his legal representatives, shall first surrender to the Secretary of the Treasury, to be cancelled, the original certificates for said land, or shall relinquish to the United States all interest in the same, in such form as shall be prescribed by the Secretary of the Treasury.
