Chap. LXXXIX.— An Act providing for the appointment of an agent for the Osage Indians, west of the state of Missouri, and territory of Arkansas, and for other purposes.May 18, 1824.[Repealed.] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,* ThatAn agent to be appointed to the Osage Indians west of the state of Missouri, and territory of Arkansas. the President of the United States be, and he is hereby, authorized to appoint an agent for the Osage Indians west of the state of Missouri, and territory of Arkansas, who shall receive for his compensation the sum of fifteen hundred dollars, in full, and that all rations or other allowances made to him, shall be deducted from the sum hereby allowed.
Sec. 2. *And be it further enacted,* ThatSaid agents to reside near said tribe or tribes. it shall be the duty of each Indian agent to reside and keep his agency within, or near the territory, claimed by the tribe or tribes of Indians for which he may be agent, at such place as the President of the United States may designate.
