Chap. CXCIV.— An Act for the Relief of James N. Muller, Supervising Inspector of Steamboats for the Third Supervising District.July 16, 1862. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,* That the Secretary of the TreasuryAccounts of James N. Muller to be settled. be, and he is hereby, authorized and required to audit and settle the accounts of James N. Muller for services rendered as supervising inspector of steamboats for the third supervising district, and to allow him the compensation provided by law for the period commencing on the sixth day of August, eighteen hundred and sixty-one, and ending on the second day of December, eighteen hundred and sixty-one.

Nobles, payment of $8199.99 to. be, and he hereby is, authorized and directed to pay, out of any balance of appropriations for wagon-roads under his control, eight thousand one hundred and ninety-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents, being the amount reported by him, under the second section of the army appropriation act, approved March second, eighteen hundred and sixty-one, to be due to William H. Nobles, late Superintendent of the Fort Ridgely and South Pass Wagon Road. Approved, March 8, 1862.

Whereas the Secretary of War has declined to act upon a claim ofMarshall O. Roberts, payment to. Marshall O. Roberts for compensation for the loss of the steamship “Star of the West,” while in the service and under the direction of the United States, upon the ground that before his appointment as Secretary of War he had been consulted as counsel in the case: Therefore— *Be it resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,* That the said claim be referred to the Attorney General, with authority to act upon the same in the same manner as the Secretary of War could have done had he not been consulted as counsel in the case, and that such sum as shall be ascertained to be due, if any, be paid in the same manner as if the same had been allowed by the Secretary of War, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
