Subpart 4 of part B of title II of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 ( 20 U.S.C. 6311 et seq. ) is amended by adding at the end the following: In this subpart: The definitions of annual base salary and teacher in section 1120(a) shall apply. The term career ladder means a staffing system that advances the teaching profession by providing teachers with opportunities for additional responsibilities, adjusted roles, and corresponding salary increases and that— enables teachers, principals, other school leaders, paraprofessionals, and education support staff to experience distributed leadership, shared accountability, and collaborative professional learning; promotes professional learning, expertise, and retention by differentiating roles in schools based on teachers’ skills, expertise, and interests; and provides for professional advancement and other recognition based on teacher impact on improving teaching and learning.
For the purpose of section 2253, the system described in subparagraph
(A)is composed of levels defined in the State’s plan described in section 2253(f) where salary increases are associated with levels of the State’s career ladder. The term subgroup of students means each subgroup of students described in section 1111(h)(1)(C)(ii). .
