Section 1209 of the Carl Levin and Howard P. Buck McKeon National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 ( Public Law 113–291 ; 128 Stat. 3541) is amended— in subsection (a), by striking December 31, 2025 and inserting December 31, 2026 ; in subsection (b)(1)(A), by inserting , including any modifications made to the vetting process in order to determine whether Syrian groups or individuals associated with the Government of Syria are eligible recipients before the period at the end; in subsection (d)(2), by redesignating subclause
(I)of clause
(iii)of subparagraph
(J)as subparagraph (K), and adjusting the margins accordingly; in subsection (e)(1)— in the matter preceding subparagraph (A), by striking elements of the Syrian opposition and other ; and in subparagraph (A)— by striking Shia militias aligned with or supporting the Government of Syria, and groups and inserting Islamist extremist organizations, Shia militias, proxy forces, or groups otherwise ; by striking Jabhat al Nusrah, Ahrar al Sham, other ; by inserting and associated and successor after al-Qaeda ; and by striking related ; in subsection (l)(3)(E)), by striking December 31, 2025 and inserting the date specified in the matter preceding paragraph
(1)of subsection
(a); and by adding at the end the following new subsection: Funds made available to carry out this section may not be used to provide assistance pursuant to subsection (a)— to any entity that is not an appropriately vetted Syrian group or individual; or to forces associated with any other government or nation. .
