Sec. 1013. Treatment by Department of Defense of request for support at southwest border of United States

In evaluating requests for support by the Department of Defense of civil authorities at the southwest border of the United States, the Secretary of Defense shall— prioritize requests that are received not less than 270 days before the requested deployment of personnel of the Department; and work with the requesting authority to define the capabilities that the civil authorities are requesting that the Department of Defense provide at the border and determine the number of personnel that are necessary to provide those capabilities. In this section, the term civil authorities means a Federal agency (other than the Department of Defense) or any State or local authority.
