Sec. 4303. Nutrition standards for food distribution programs

Not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Agriculture shall promulgate regulations with respect to nutrition guidelines for food distributed under the programs established under— section 4(a) of the Agriculture and Consumer Protection Act of 1973 ( 7 U.S.C. 612c note); the Emergency Food Assistance Act of 1983 ( 7 U.S.C. 7501 ); and section 4(b) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 ( 7 U.S.C. 2013(b) ). In promulgating regulations under subsection (a), the Secretary shall— ensure that the food products distributed under the programs described in such subsection are consistent with the goals of the most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans published under section 301 of the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Act of 1990 ( 7 U.S.C. 5341 ) and designed to meet the quantitative recommendations of such Guidelines; and Ensure that the nutrition standards reflect the different cultural and religious dietary needs of the populations being served food products under the programs described in such subsection.
