Section 714 of title 10, United States Code, is amended— in the section heading, by striking ; within the United States in subsection (a), in the matter preceding paragraph (1), by striking within the United States ; and in subsection (b)(1), in the matter preceding sub paragraph (A), by striking within the United States . Such section is further amended, in subsection (b)(3), by inserting or the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security after only to the Deputy Secretary of Defense .

Such section is further amended, in subsection (b), by adding at the end the following new paragraph: The Secretary of Defense may temporarily provide physical protection and personal security under this subsection to an individual— pending the determination of the Secretary under paragraph
(4)regarding such individual; and for a period not to exceed 30 days. .
