Section 701(l) of title 10, United States Code, is amended in paragraph
(3)by striking subparagraphs
(A)and
(B)and inserting the following: a spouse; a son or daughter; or a parent; In this section, the term son or daughter means— a biological, adopted, step, or foster son or daughter of the individual; a person who is a legal ward of the member, or was a legal ward of the individual when the person was a minor or otherwise required a legal guardian; or a person for whom the member stands in loco parentis or stood in loco parentis when the person was a minor or otherwise required the individual to stand in loco parentis. In this section, the term parent means— a biological, adoptive, step, or foster parent of the individual, or a person who was a foster parent of the individual when the individual was a minor; a legal guardian of the individual, or person who was a legal guardian of the individual when the individual was a minor or otherwise required a legal guardian; or a person who stands in loco parentis to the member or stood in loco parentis when the individual was a minor or otherwise required a person to stand in loco parentis .
