Sec. 584. Enhanced information related to awarding of the Purple Heart

Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, each Chief of an Armed Force shall publish on a publicly available website of such Armed Force includes a link to— a description of the background of the Purple Heart; the eligibility criteria for awarding the Purple Heart; and contact information for the awards and decorations liaison of such Armed Force to facilitate confirmation, by a veteran or a veteran's next of kin, whether a veteran was awarded the Purple Heart after December 31, 2002.
Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, each Chief of an Armed Force shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on implementation of the requirements under subsection (a). The report shall— provide background on the website described in such subsection; include the number of requests received by the Armed Force related to confirming the award of a Purple Heart; describe the average response time for confirming the award of a Purple Heart in response to an inquiry from a veteran or next of kin; and include recommendations for decreasing the amount of time taken to respond to such inquiries.
