Sec. 5209. Reports on recommendations of National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence regarding Department of Defense

Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, and one year thereafter, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on the recommendations made by the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence with respect to the Department of Defense. Each such report shall include— for each such recommendation, a determination of whether the Secretary of Defense intends to implement the recommendation; in the case of a recommendation the Secretary intends to implement, the intended timeline for implementation, a description of any additional resources or authorities required for such implementation, and the plan for such implementation; in the case of a recommendation the Secretary determines is not advisable or feasible, the analysis and justification of the Secretary in making that determination; and in the case of a recommendation the Secretary determines the Department is already implementing through a separate line of effort, the analysis and justification of the Secretary in making that determination.
Not less frequently than twice each year during the two-year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall provide to the congressional defense committees briefings on the progress of the Secretary in analyzing and implementing the recommendations made by the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence with respect to the Department of Defense. The Secretary of Defense shall include in the annual budget submission of the President under section 1105(a) of title 31, United States Code, for each of fiscal years 2023 and 2024, a report listing the funding and programs of the Department of Defense that advance the recommendations of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence.
