Sec. 1072. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs

Section 138(b) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph: One of the Assistant Secretaries is the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs. The principal duties of the Assistant Secretary shall be to— act as principal advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and the Secretary of Defense on international security strategy and policy on issues of interest to the Department of Defense that relate to the nations and international organizations of China, East Asia, South and Southeast Asia, including governments and defense establishments; and provide oversight of security cooperation programs, including foreign military sales, in the Indo-Pacific region. .
