Congress affirms the importance of gender equality and women’s empowerment to United States policy in the Pacific Islands and recognizes the work of the existing regional frameworks and platforms on gender equality. The Secretary of State and the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development shall— develop and implement an initiative to encourage and support efforts by the Pacific Islands to reduce and combat gender-based violence, in coordination with existing efforts by United States allies and partners as well as regional organizations; and promote gender equality in political, economic, social, and cultural development programs in the Pacific Islands.
