Sec. 1633. Assessing risk to national security of quantum computing

Not later than December 31, 2022, the Secretary of Defense shall— complete a comprehensive assessment of the current and potential threats and risks posed by quantum computing technologies to critical national security systems, including— identification and prioritization of critical national security systems at risk; assessment of the standards of the National Institute of Standards and Technology for quantum resistant cryptography and their applicability to cryptographic requirements of the Department of Defense; feasibility of alternative quantum resistant algorithms and features; and funding shortfalls in public and private developmental efforts relating to quantum resistant cryptography; and develop recommendations for research, development, and acquisition activities, including resourcing schedules, for securing the national security systems identified in paragraph (1)(A) against quantum computing code-breaking capabilities.
Not later than February 1, 2023, the Secretary shall brief the congressional defense committees on the assessment completed under paragraph
(1)of subsection
(a)and the recommendations developed under paragraph
(2)of such subsection.
