The Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection shall verify parentage or other family relationships of individuals apprehended along the border or at designated ports of entry, in accordance with section 411(c) of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 ( 6 U.S.C. 211(c) ), by photographing and collecting biometric information from all alien children apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection who were younger than 18 years of age at the time of such apprehension. The Secretary of Homeland Security or the Attorney General shall verify parentage or other family relationships of individuals apprehended along the border or at designated ports of entry, in accordance with section 3(a) of the DNA Analysis Backlog Elimination Act of 2000 ( 34 U.S.C. 40702(a) ), shall conduct DNA analysis from all alien children younger than 18 years of age who are in the custody of U.S.
Customs and Border Protection or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. DNA analysis conducted under paragraph
(1)may be may be carried out with Rapid DNA instruments (as defined in section 3(c)(3) of the DNA Analysis Backlog Elimination Act of 2000 ( 34 U.S.C. 40702(c)(3) )).
