Chapter 601 of title 49, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following: Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this section, the Secretary shall issue regulations requiring each operator of a gas pipeline facility to install and use advanced leak detection technology on all gas pipelines it operates. The advanced leak detection technology required under subsection
(a)shall, at a minimum— have a high accuracy of identifying leak location; be capable of measuring methane concentrations in parts per billion; and be capable of correlating methane concentration measurements to data produced by geographic information systems technology. . The table of sections for chapter 601 of title 49, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new item: 60142. Leak detection technology. .
