Section 141 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 ( Public Law 112–239 ; 126 Stat. 1659), as amended by section 132 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 ( Public Law 114–328 ), is amended by inserting after subsection
(c)the following: The Secretary of the Air Force shall preserve each C–5 aircraft that is retired by the Secretary during a period in which the total inventory of strategic airlift aircraft of the Secretary is less than 301, such that the retired aircraft— is stored in flyable condition; can be returned to service; and is not used to supply parts to other aircraft unless specifically authorized by the Secretary of Defense upon a request by the Secretary of the Air Force. .
