The Office shall work in collaboration with National Laboratories and institutions of higher education to provide assistance to small and medium manufacturers with respect to smart manufacturing technologies and practices. The Secretary shall expand the scope of technologies covered by the Industrial Assessment Centers— to include smart manufacturing technologies and practices; and to provide the directors of the Industrial Assessment Centers with the training and tools necessary to provide to manufacturers technical assistance in smart manufacturing technologies and practices, including energy management systems.
