Section 401(a) of the Social Security Act ( 42 U.S.C. 601(a) ) is amended— in paragraph (3), by striking and at the end; in paragraph (4), by striking the period at the end and inserting ; and ; and by adding at the end the following: promote employment advancement among needy families. . Section 402(a)(1)(A) of such Act ( 42 U.S.C. 602(a)(1)(A) ) is amended— by redesignating clauses
(vii)and
(viii)as clauses
(viii)and (ix), respectively; and by inserting after clause
(vi)the following: Establish numeric goals for increasing job entry, employment retention, and earnings gains for current and recent recipients of assistance under the program, and provide the Secretary with a narrative description of the activities and programs the State will implement to attain these goals. .
