The Secretary of Defense shall use best value tradeoff source selection methods to the maximum extent practicable when procuring an item of personal protective equipment or critical safety items. In this section, the term personal protective equipment includes the following: Body armor components. Combat helmets. Combat protective eyewear. Environmental and fire resistant clothing. Footwear. Organizational clothing and individual equipment. Other critical safety items as determined appropriate by the Secretary.
