Part Q of title III of the Public Health Service Act ( 42 U.S.C. 280h et seq. ) is amended by striking section 399Z and inserting the following: The Secretary, in collaboration with the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the heads of other agencies, and in consultation with appropriate health professional associations, shall develop and carry out a program to educate and train health professionals in effective strategies to— better identify patients at-risk of becoming overweight or obese or developing an eating disorder; detect overweight or obesity or eating disorders among a diverse patient population; counsel, refer, or treat patients with overweight or obesity or an eating disorder; educate patients and the families of patients about effective strategies to establish healthy eating habits and appropriate levels of physical activity; and assist in the creation and administration of community-based overweight and obesity and eating disorder prevention efforts.
In this section, the term eating disorder includes anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and eating disorders not otherwise specified, as defined in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or any subsequent edition. There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section such sums as may be necessary for each of the fiscal years 2014 through 2018. .
