Not later than January 1, 2017, the Secretary, acting through the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, shall establish a mechanism for— collecting information from patients (or their health care proxies or families members in the event patients are unable to speak for themselves) in relevant provider settings regarding their care at the end of life; and incorporating such information in a timely manner into mechanisms used by the Administrator to provide quality of care information to consumers, including the Hospital Compare and Nursing Home Compare websites maintained by the Administrator.
