The rate of basic pay for an officer while serving as the Chief of the National Guard Bureau shall be the same as the rate of basic pay for the officers specified in Footnote 2 of the table entitled in section 601(b) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2004 (Public Law 108–136; commissioned officers 37 U.S.C. 1009 note), regardless of cumulative years of service computed under section 205 of title 37, United States Code. Subsection (a)(1) of section 685 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 (37 U.S.C. 205 note) is amended by inserting or as Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief of the National Guard Bureau after Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff .
The heading of such section is amended by inserting after and for the Chief of the National Guard Bureau . Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Section 210 of title 37, United States Code, is amended— in subsection (a), by inserting or the senior enlisted advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or the Chief of the National Guard Bureau after that armed force the first place it appears; and in subsection (c), by striking paragraph (6). Section 414 of title 37, United States Code, is amended— in subsection (a)(5), by striking or Commandant of the Coast Guard and inserting Commandant of the Coast Guard, or Chief of the National Guard Bureau ; and in subsection (c), by striking or the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and inserting the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, or the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief of the National Guard Bureau .
Section 1406(i) of title 10, United States Code, is amended— in the subsection heading, by inserting after Chief of the National Guard Bureau, ; Chiefs of Service, in paragraph (1)— by inserting as Chief of the National Guard Bureau, after Chief of Service, ; and by inserting or the senior enlisted advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or the Chief of the National Guard Bureau after of an armed force ; and in paragraph (3)(B), by striking clause (vi). This section and the amendments made by this section shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act, and shall apply with respect to months of service that begin on or after that date.
