Section 8102a(d) is amended— in paragraph (1)(A), by striking surviving spouse. and inserting surviving spouse (or surviving partner). ; in paragraph (2)(C), by inserting (or children of the employee’s domestic partner not adopted by or otherwise the children of the employee) after stepchildren ; and by striking paragraph
(6)and inserting the following: If a person covered by this section has a spouse (or a domestic partner), but designates a person other than the spouse (or domestic partner) to receive all or a portion of the amount payable under this section, the head of the agency, or other entity, in which that person is employed shall provide notice of the designation to the spouse (or the domestic partner). .
