As a contribution to the current account operations and maintenance of communications systems, the Government of the United States shall provide on a grant basis for fifteen years commencing on the effective date of this Compact the following amounts: to the Government of the Marshall Islands, $300,000 annually; and to the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia, $600,000 annually. For the purpose of acquiring such communications hardware as may be located within the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia or for such other current or capital account activity as may be selected, the Government of the United States shall provide, concurrently with the grant assistance provided pursuant to this Article during the first year after the effective date of this Compact, the sum of $9 million to be allocated as follows: to the Government of the Marshall Islands, $3 million; and to the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia, $6 million.
