Chap. CLXXXII.— An Act for the Relief of Ward and Smith. Aug. 14, 1848. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, The Secretary of the Navy to as-certain what sum That the Secretary of the Navy be, and he is hereby, authorized and required to ascertain738THIRTIETH CONGRESS. Sess. I. Ch. 183, 184, 185. 1848. is justly due Ward and Smith for advances made for the use of the navy in California, and certify the amount to the Secretary of the Treasury, who shall pay the same.what sum should be justly and equitably allowed the firm of Ward and Smith, for advances made by them for the use of the Navy Department in California, in the month of February, eighteen hundred and forty-seven, and to certify the amount to the Secretary of the Treasury, who shall pay the same out of any money in the treasury not otherwise ap propriated.
