Chap. XXVII.— An Act for the relief of the legal representatives of Ignace Chalmet Delino, deceased, and of Anthony Cruzat and L. P. Deverges. March 1, 1817. *Be it enacted, &c., * That the accounting officers of the Department To be compensated for property destroyed.of War be, and they are hereby, authorized and directed to audit and settle the claim of the legal representatives of Ignace Chalmet Delino, deceased, on account of the destruction of the property of the said Delino, and of Anthony Cruzat and L.
P. Deverges, in the vicinity of New Orleans, by order of Major-general Andrew Jackson. Sec. 2. Appraisers to be appointed. *And be it further enacted, *That the said accounting officers are hereby authorized to appoint three good and discreet citizens, who shall repair to the plantation of the said Delino, where the property is alleged to have been destroyed, and there diligently inquire what property may have been destroyed, in the manner aforesaid, and to make a just appraisement of the value thereof, and transmit a true return of such appraisement, under oath or affirmation, to the accountant of the War Department, who shall award thereupon such sum, to be paid to the claimants, as may appear reasonable and just; which sum, so awarded, shall be paid to the legal representatives of the said Delino, and to Anthony Cruzat and L.
P. Deverges, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated. Approved, March 1, 1817.
