Chap. XLIX.— An Act *for the relief of Nathaniel Mitchell.*March 2, 1839. *Be it enacted, &c*., That the Treasurer of the United States pay toPayment of amount paid by him to satisfy a judgment against him. Nathaniel Mitchel) the sum of two thousand three hundred and ninety-two dollars and twenty-one cents, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, out of the fund appropriated for the service of the Post Office Department; being the amount paid by said Mitchell to satisfy a judgment recovered against him in the supreme judicial court of Maine, on the first Tuesday of July, eighteen hundred and thirty-seven, in favor of William Merriam, for acts done by said Mitchell under orders from the Postmaster-General, in arresting the said Merriam on a charge for violating the post office laws of the United States.
