Chap. XII.— An Act to provide for the payment of certain expenses incurred in the impeachment of Samuel Chase. Jan. 21, 1808. *Be it enacted, &c., * That the accounting officers of the Treasury be, Expenses incurred in the impeachment of Judge Chase to be settled and paid.and they are hereby directed to audit and settle the accounts of all persons who may have claims against the United States, for expenses incurred in the inquiry into the conduct, and in the impeachment of Samuel Chase; which expenses may have been authorized by the committee Proviso.of inquiry, or the managers of the said impeachment: *Provided,* That the said accounts shall have been first certified by the chairman of the said committee, or managers; and the same shall be paid out of any moneys in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated.
