Chap. LXXIV.— An Act for the relief of Thomas Miller and Stephen Baker. April 18, 1818. *Be it enacted, &c., * That the proper accounting officers of the treasury department be, and they are hereby, authorized and empowered toTo be paid the value of a house while occupied by the U. S. pay to Thomas Miller and Stephen Baker, composing the firm of Miller and Baker, of the city of New York, the sum of three thousand five hundred dollars, the value of the house in Greenwich, near the city of New York, which was rented in the autumn of one thousand eight hundred and twelve, by the said Miller and Baker, to C.
Van De Venter, late deputy quartermaster-general, for the use and occupation of the troops of the United States, which said house, used and occupied at the risk of the United States, was subsequently burnt down, on the fourth of March, one thousand eight hundred and thirteen, whilst used and occupied as aforesaid; which sum shall be in full of all demands, made on the part of the said Miller and Baker, against the United States. Sec. 2. *And be it further enacted, *That the aforesaid sum of threeAppropriation. thousand five hundred dollars shall be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
