Chap. LIX.— An Act *for the relief of William Rich.* March 3, 1845. *Be it enacted, &c*., That the Secretary of the Treasury pay, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to William Rich,Payment to him. the sum of two hundred and fifty-two dollars and twenty-two cents, it being in full payment of any equitable claim he may have upon the United States for having relinquished his interest, as a custom-house officer in Vermont, in the result of a suit at law, (in a case of smuggling, upon which he had expended a considerable sum of money,) to enable him to become a witness for the government.
