Chap. CXLVII.— An Act for the relief of Nathaniel Briggs. May 24, 1828. *Be it enacted, &c., * A penalty to be remitted. That the Secretary of the Treasury is hereby authorized to remit a penalty of two hundred dollars, incurred by Nathaniel Briggs, master of the brig Enterprize, of Freetown, in Massachusetts, Act of June 1, 1796, ch. 45.under “An act providing passports for the ships and vessels of the United States,” passed the first of June, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-six; and to direct the prosecution for the recovery Act of March 3, 1797, ch. 13.thereof to be discontinued, in the mode prescribed by “An act to provide for mitigating or remitting the forfeitures, penalties, and disabilities, accruing in certain cases therein mentioned,” passed the third of March, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven.
