Chap. CXL.— An Act for the relief of Alexander Claxton. May 28, 1830. 1833, ch. 118. *Be it enacted, &c., * That it shall be the duty of the Secretary of the Payment of costs in the case of ship James Mitchell.Navy, to pay to the person or persons who may be legally entitled to receive the same, or who may have legally paid the same, the taxable costs decreed to be paid by Alexander Claxton, a Master Commandant in the Navy of the United States, in the suit prosecuted by him against the English merchant-ship James Mitchell, in the Superior Court of the District of East Florida; and that a sum, not exceeding five thousand two hundred and sixty-four dollars and ninety-eight cents be, and the same hereby is, appropriated, for the purpose aforesaid, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
Sec. 2. Expenses in said case to be settled and allowed. *And be it further enacted, *That the proper accounting officers of the treasury department be, and they hereby are, authorized and directed to audit and allow the accounts of the said Alexander Claxton, for his reasonable expenses, incurred by him in and about the prosecution of his claim for salvage against the English merchant-ship James Mitchell, in the Superior Court of the District of East Florida, so as that said expenses shall not exceed eight hundred and seventy-two dollars and seventy-five cents; and that the amount of the said expenses, when ascertained, be paid to the said Alexander Claxton, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
