Chap. CLXXII.— An Act *for the relief of Boyd Reilly.* March 3, 1843. *Be it enacted, &c*., That the Secretary of War and the Secretary ofPurchase of the right to use his apparatus for the application of vapor to the human system, authorized. the Navy be, and they are hereby, authorized and instructed to receive from Boyd Reilly his patent right for the use of the different forms of apparatus invented by him, for the application of gas or vapor of any description to the human system, which are at present in use, or may at any time hereafter be introduced into the hospitals of the army, the navy, and the penitentiary of the United States, and on board of the national shipping; and, also, to settle the amount of compensation due to him, on principles of equity—the sum awarded to be charged in equal proportions to the contingent expenses of the army and navy, or to hospital expenditures of each service—provided the same shall not exceed the sum of five thousand dollars.
