Chap. CCXXVIII.— An Act *for the relief of Robert M. Roberts or his legal assignees.*March 3, 1839. *Be it enacted, &c*., That Robert M. Roberts, his legal representativesAuthorized to purchase certain and at $1.25 per acre. or assignees, are hereby authorized to purchase of the Register and Receiver of the land office at Monroe, in the state of Louisiana in the district for the sale of lands north of Red river, lot number sixteen, in township number twenty-two north, range number twelve east, in said district, containing one hundred and fifty-six and twenty-seven hundredths acres, at the rate of one dollar and twenty-five cents per acre; and upon the production of the receipt of the aforesaid receiver for the money, together with the assent in writing of the school commissioners of the parish of Carroll, in said state, and of a majority of the white male inhabitants of the township over twenty-one years of age to the making of said purchase and filing the same in the office of the Register, that officer shall issue a certificate for the same; upon the production of which at the General Land office, the said Robert M.
Roberts, or his legal assignees, shall be entitled to receive a patent for said land in the same manner as if purchased under the preemption laws. Sec. 2. *And be it further enacted*, That the aforesaid RegisterOther land to be selected For use of schools. and Receiver, under the direction of the Commissioner of the General Land Office, shall select and set apart an equal quantity of land of equal value, in the same township, if the same can be found, if not, in some other place in said land district, for the use of schools in the aforesaid township.
