Chap. C.— An Act for the relief of Robert F. Stockton. March 3, 1823. *Be it enacted, &c., * Expenses of certain suits to be allowed to him in the cases of the Jeune Eugenia and the Marianna Flora. That the proper accounting officers of the treasury department be, and they are hereby, authorized and directed to audit and allow the accounts of Lieutenant Robert F. Stockton, late commander of the United States’ schooner Alligator, for money paid and expenses incurred, or which may hereafter be incurred, by him, in any suit or suits instituted in the courts of the United States, in the case of the schooner Jeune Eugenia, captured off the coast of Africa, by the said schooner Alligator, for an alleged violation of the laws prohibiting the slave trade; and in the case of the ship Marianna Flora, likewise captured on the high seas, for an alleged piratical aggression on the said schooner Alligator, while under the command of the said Stockton; and which vessels, respectively, were sent into the United States for adjudication.
Sec. 2. Appropriation. *And be it further enacted, *That the amount of said expenses, when ascertained by the Secretary of the Treasury, shall be paid to the said Robert F. Stockton, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated. Approved, March 3, 1823.
