Bureau of Navigation.instruments and supplies, bureau of navigation Instruments and supplies.For supplies for seamen’s quarters; and for the purchase of all other articles of equipage at home and abroad; and for the payment of labor in equipping vessels therewith and manufacture of such articles in the several navy yards; all pilotage and towage of ships of war; canal tolls, wharfage, dock and port charges, and other necessary incidental expenses of a similar nature; hire of launches or other small boats in Asiatic waters; quarantine expenses; services and materials in repairing, correcting, adjusting, and testing compasses on shore and on board ship; nautical and astronomical instruments and repairs to same; compasses, compass fittings, including binnacles, tripods, and other appendages of ship’s compasses; logs and other appliances for measuring the ship’s way and leads and other appliances for sounding; photographs, photographic instruments and materials, printing outfit and materials; music and musical instruments; commissions, warrants, diplomas, discharges, good-conduct badges, and medals for men and boys; transportation of effects of deceased officers, nurses, and enlisted men of the Navy, and of officers and men of the Naval Reserve who die while on duty; not to exceed $5,000 for contingent expenses and emergencies arising under cognizance of the Bureau of Navigation, unforeseen and impossible to classify; and for the necessary civilian electricians for *Proviso*.Group IV

BUREAU OF ENGINEERINGBureau of Engineering. engineering For repairs, preservation, and renewal of machinery, auxiliaryEngineering repairs, machinery, etc.Equipment supplies, etc.*Post*, p. 1628. machinery, and boilers of naval vessels, yard craft, and ships’ boats, distilling and refrigerating apparatus; repairs, preservation, and renewals of electric interior and exterior signal communications and all electrical appliances of whatsoever nature on board naval vessels, except range finders, battle order and range transmitters and indicators, and motors and their controlling apparatus used to operate machinery belonging to other bureaus; searchlights and fire-control equipments for antiaircraft defense at shore stations; maintenance and operation of coast signal service; equipage, supplies, and materials under the cognizance of the bureau required for the maintenance and operation of naval vessels, yard craft, and ships’ boats; purchase, installation, repair, and preservation of machinery, tools, and appliances in navy yards and stations, accident prevention, pay of classified field force under the bureau; incidental expenses for naval vessels, navy yards, and stations, inspectors’ offices, the engineering experiment station, such as photographing, technical books and periodicals, stationery, and instruments; services, instruments, machines and auxiliaries, apparatus and supplies, and technical books and periodicals necessary to carry on experimental and research work; maintenance and equipment of buildings and grounds at the engineering experiment station, Annapolis, Maryland; payment ofAnnapolis, Md., engineering experiment station. part time or intermittent employment in the District of Columbia or elsewhere of such scientists and technicists as may be contracted for by the Secretary of the Navy, in his discretion, at a rate of pay not exceeding $20 per diem for any person so employed; in all, $19,062,000, and in addition, $500,000 of the unobligated balance on June 30, 1935, of the appropriation “General Expenses, Marine Corps, 1933”, is hereby reappropriated and made available for the purposes of this paragraph: *Provided*, That the sum to be paid out of this*Proviso*.Group IV

No part of any money appropriated by this Act shall beGovernment-owned automobiles.Use restricted to official business.Transportation between domicile and place of employment. used for maintaining, driving, or operating any Government-owned motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicle not used exclusively for official purposes; and “official purposes” shall not include the transportation of officers and employees between their domiciles and places of employment except in cases of medical officers on out-patient medical service and except in cases of officers and employees engaged in field work the character of whose duties makes such transportation necessary and then only as to such latter cases when the same is approved by the head of the Department.
