(/us/pl/73/280).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, That the consentConnecticut River.Massachusetts may bridge, at Turners Falls. of Congress is hereby granted to the Department of Public Works, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge and approaches thereto across the Connecticut River, at a point suitable to the interests of navigation, at Montague (Turners Falls) and Gill (Riverside), Massachusetts, in accordance with the provisions of an Act entitled “An Act to regulate the constructionConstruction.Vol. 34, p. 84. of bridges over navigable waters”, approved March 23, 1906.
Sec. 2. The right to alter, amend, or repeal this Act is hereby Amendment.expressly reserved. Approved, June 4, 1934. Digitization Vendor 2024-12-11 48 Stat. 841 73 2 public [CHAPTER 385.] AN ACT Granting the consent of Congress to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to construct, maintain, and operate a toll bridge across the Susquehanna River at or near Bainbridge, Lancaster County, and Manchester, York County.June 4, 1934.[[H.R. 9257](/us/bill/73/hr/9257).][[Public, No. 281](/us/pl/73/281).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, That the consentSusquehanna River.Pennsylvania may bridge, Bainbridge to Manchester. of Congress is hereby granted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, acting through its Department of Highways, to construct, maintain, and operate a bridge and approaches thereto across the Susquehanna River at a point suitable to the interests of navigation at or near Bainbridge, Lancaster County, and Manchester, York County, and between the counties of York and Lancaster, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in accordance with the provisions of an Act entitled “An Act to regulate the construction of bridgesConstruction.Vol. 34, p. 84. over navigable waters”, approved March 23, 1906, and subject to the conditions and limitations contained in this Act.
Sec. 2. If tolls are charged for the use of such bridge, the ratesUse of tolls to provide for operation and sinking fund. of toll shall be so adjusted as to provide a fund sufficient to pay the reasonable cost of maintaining, repairing, and operating the bridge and its approaches under economical management, and to provide a sinking fund sufficient to amortize the cost of the bridge and its approaches, including reasonable interest and financing cost, as soon as possible under reasonable charges, but within a period of not to exceed twenty years from the completion thereof.
After a sinkingMaintenance as free bridge, after amortizing costs. fund sufficient for such amortization shall have been so provided, such bridge shall thereafter be maintained and operated free or tolls, or the rates of toll shall thereafter be so adjusted as to provide a fund of not to exceed the amount necessary for the proper maintenance, repair, and operation of the bridge and its approaches under economical management. An accurate record of the costs ofRecord of expenditures and receipts. the bridge and its approaches, the expenditures for maintaining, repairing, and operating the same, and of the daily tolls collected shall be kept and shall be available for the information of all persons interested.
