CHAP. 42.— Joint Resolution To grant authority for the erection of a permanent building at the headquarters of the American National Red Cross, Washington, District of Columbia. February 7, 1930.[[S. J. Res. 98](/us/bill/71/sjres/98).][[Pub. Res., No. 39](/us/bill/71/pubres/39).] Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,American National Red Cross.Authorized to replace temporary structures on grounds of Memorial to Women of the Civil War by a permanent building.Vol. 41, p. 90.
That authority be, and is hereby, given to the American National Red Cross to erect upon square 172, in the city of Washington, District of Columbia, in replacement of the temporary building or buildings erected on such lot under Public Resolution Numbered 3, Sixty-fifth Congress (S. J. Res. 61), a permanent building for the use of the American National Red Cross in connection with its work in cooperation with the Government of the United States. Sec. 2.Sum authorized as a part contribution thereto. *Post*, p. 866.
That there is hereby authorized to be appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of $350,000 as a part contribution to the erection of said building, which sum shall not be available until a like sum has been provided out of the funds of the American National Red Cross. Sec. 3.Subject to approval of plans, etc. That the money hereby authorized to be appropriated shall not be paid until the plan of the proposed building shall have been approved by a commission consisting of the chairman of the central committee of the American National Red Cross, the Secretary of War, the chairman of the Senate Committee on the Library, and the chairman of the House Committee on the Library.
The plans of said building shall likewise be approved by the Commission of Fine Arts and erection thereof shall be under the supervision of the Director of Public Buildings and Public Parks of the National Capital. Sec. 4.Removal of temporary buildings. That the cost of the removal of the temporary building or buildings shall be borne by the American National Red Cross without expense to the United States. Sec. 5.To be United States property. That said permanent building shall remain the property of the United States but under the supervision of the Director of Public Buildings and Public Parks of the National Capital, and the Care, etc.
American National Red Cross shall at all times be charged with the responsibility, the care, keeping, and maintenance of said building without expense to the United States. Approved, February 7, 1930.
