CHAP. 347.— An Act To authorize the erection of a marker upon the site of New Echota, capital of the Cherokee Indians prior to their removal west of the Mississippi River, to commemorate its location, and events connected with its history. May 28, 1930.[[H. R. 9444](/us/bill/71/hr/9444).][[Public, No. 277](/us/pl/71/277).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, That the SecretaryCherokee Indians.Marker at New Echota, tonner capital of, authorized. of War is authorized to erect upon some portion of the site of New Echota, last capital of the Cherokee Indians prior to their removal in 1838 west of the Mississippi River, a suitable marker commemorating said location, with adequate inscriptions relative to the principal facts of its history.
Sec. 2. The site for said marker shall consist of not more thanSelection of site. one acre of land, which shall be selected under the direction of the Secretary of War, and shall be furnished free of cost for this purpose. Sec. 3. There is hereby authorized to be appropriated, out of anySum authorized.*Post*, p. 910. funds in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of $2,500, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to carry out the provisions of this Act.
