Mex.Preliminary examination directed of, for flood control. of War is hereby authorized and directed to cause a preliminary examination to be made of the Tittabawassee and Chippewa Rivers, Michigan, and San Juan River, New Mexico, with a view to preparing plans and estimates of the cost of such work as may be necessary for the prevention and control of floods, in accordance with the provisions of an Act entitled “An Act to provide for controlVol. 39, p. 950.[U. S. C., p. 1090](/us/usc/p1090). of the floods of the Mississippi River, and the Sacramento River, of California, and for other purposes,” approved March 1, 1917, the cost thereof to be paid from appropriations heretofore or hereafterPayment of expenses. made for examinations, surveys, and contingencies of rivers and harbors.
