CHAP. 871.— An Act To quiet title and possession with respect to certain lands in Baldwin County, Alabama.July 3, 1926. [[H. R. 7104](/us/bill/69/hr/7104).] [[Private, No. 300](/us/pvtl/69/300).] James Carpenter.Preemption claim of, to sections of land in Alabama granted to owners of title thereto.*Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of Hie United States of America in Congress assembled*, That all right, title, and interest of the United States in and to the lands situate in sections 56a, 57, and 58, township 2 north, range 1 east, in Baldwin County, Alabama, formerly known as the James Carpenter claim, shall be, and the same are, hereby granted, released, and relinquished by the United States in fee simple to the respective owner or owners of the equitable title and to their heirs and assigns forever, as freely and completely, in every respect whatever, as could be done by patents issued therefor according to law.
Sec. 2. No other than United States title relinquished.Nothing in this Act shall in any manner abridge, divest, impair, injure, or prejudice any valid right, title, or interest of any person or persons in or to any portion or part of the lands mentioned in the said first section, the true intent of this bill being to relinquish and abandon, grant, give, and concede any and all right, interest, and estate, in law or equity, which the United States is or is supposed to be. entitled to in said lands, in favor of all persons, estates, firms, or corporations who would be the true and lawful owners of the same under the laws of the State of Alabama, including the laws of prescription, in the absence of the said interest and estate of the United States.
Sec. 3. Deposit of certain proceeds.That the amount of $582 deposited in behalf of the equitable owners of section 57 with the Commissioner of the General Land Office shall be covered into the Treasury as proceeds from the public lands. Approved, July 3, 1926.
