CHAP. 455.— An Act Granting the consent of Congress to the county of Jackson, Arkansas, to construct, maintain, and operate a bridge across the White River, at or near the city of Newport, in the county of Jackson, in the State of Arkansas. March 3, 1925.[[S. 4317](/us/bill/68/s/4317).][[Public, No. 573](/us/pl/68/573).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, * That the consent White River. Jackson County, Ark., may bridge, near Newport.of Congress is hereby granted to the county of Jackson, in the State of Arkansas, and its successors to construct, maintain, and operate a bridge and approaches thereto across the White River, at a point suitable to the interests of navigation, at or near the city of New-port, in the county of Jackson, in the State of Arkansas, in accordance Construction.Vol. 34, p. 84.with the provisions of the Act entitled “An Act to regulate the construction of bridges over navigable waters,” approved March 23, 1906. 1132 Sec. 2.
Arkansas may acquire to operate as a free bridge. The State of Arkansas, or any political subdivision or division thereof, within or adjoining which said bridge is located, may at any time, by agreement or by condemnation in accordance with the laws of said State acquire all right, title, and interest in said bridge and the approaches thereto constructed under authority of this Act, for the purpose of maintaining and operating such bridge as a free bridge, by the payment to the owners of the reasonable value thereof, not to exceed in any event the construction cost thereof:*Proviso*.Tolls allowed for five years.*Provided*, That the said State or political subdivision or division thereof may operate such bridge as a toll bridge not to exceed five years from date of acquisition thereof.
Sec. 3. Amendment. The right to alter, amend, or repeal this Act is hereby expressly reserved. Approved, March 3, 1925.
