CHAP. 239.— An Act For the relief of the owners of the steamship Ceylon Maru. February 16, 1925.[[S. 84](/us/bill/68/s/84).][[Private, No. 161](/us/pvtl/68/161).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled*, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha.May bring suit for collision damages to steamship “Ceylon Maru” in district court. That the claim of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, owner of the Japanese steamship Ceylon Maru, against the United States of America, for damages alleged to have been caused by collision off Trompeloupe, France, on November 2, 1918, between the said vessel and the American steam-1565ship Jeannette Skinner, owned by the United States of America, and being then operated by the War Department in its transport service, may be sued for by the said Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha in the District Court of the United States for the Eastern District of New York, sitting as a court of admiralty and acting under the rules governing such court; and such court shall have jurisdiction to hear and Jurisdiction of court.determine such suit and to enter a judgment or decree for the amount of such damage, and costs, if any, as shall be found to be due against the United States in favor of said Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, or against the said Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, in favor of the United States, upon the same principles and measures of liability as in like cases in admiralty between private parties and with the same rights of appeal: *Provided*, That such notice of the suit shall be given *Provisos*.Notice, etc., to Attorney General.to the Attorney General of the United States as may be provided by order of the said court, and it shall be the duty of the Attorney General to cause the United States attorney in such district to appear and defend for the United States: *Provided further*, That in the suit Evidence admissible.authorized by this Act any and all of the testimony taken in the suit of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki against the steamship Jeannette Skinner begun by the filing of a libel in the District Court of the United States for the District of Maryland on March 1, 1919, may be offered by or in behalf of the Government or the owner of the Ceylon Maru and shall be admissible in evidence: *And provided further*, That said suit Commencement, etc., of suit.shall be brought and commenced within four months of the date of the passage of this Act.
