CHAP. 223.— An Act Authorizing preliminary examinations and surveys of sundry streams with a view to the control of their floods. May 31, 1924.[[H. R. 8070](/us/bill/68/hr/8070).][[Public, No. 170](/us/pl/68/170).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress Assembled, * That the Flood control.Preliminary examinations to be made of sundry streams for.Secretary of War be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to cause preliminary examinations to be made of the following streams with a view to the control of their floods in accordance with the provisions of section 3 of “An Act to provide for the Vol. 39, p. 950.control of the floods of the Mississippi River and of the Sacramento River, California, and for other purposes,” approved March 1, 1917:
Trinity River, Texas; Brazos River, Texas; Canadian River, New Streams designated.Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma; North Fork Canadian, Texas and Oklahoma; Deep Fork, Virdigris, and Little River, Oklahoma; Cimarron River, New Mexico and Oklahoma; Wolf and Fox Rivers, Wisconsin; West Fork of White River, Indiana; Guadalupe River, Texas; Columbia River, between Martins Bluff and mouth of Lewis River, Washington; Skagit River, Washington: Pond River, Kentucky; Colorado River, Texas;
Red River, Arkansas, and Arkansas River in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. The sum of $6,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is Sum authorized for.hereby authorized to be expended out of any funds heretofore appropriated for examinations, surveys, and contingencies of rivers *Post*, p. 516.and harbors to carry out the provisions of this section. Sec. 2. That the Secretary of War is hereby authorized and Surveys directed for flood control, and appropriations authorized.directed to cause surveys to be made of the following streams with a view to the control of their floods in accordance with the provisions of section 3 of “An Act to provide for the control of the Vol. 39, p. 950.250 floods of the Mississippi River and of the Sacramento River, California, and for other purposes,” approved March 1, 1917:
North Branch of Susquehanna River, Pa., and N. Y.*Post*, p. 606. North Branch of the Susquehanna River, Pennsylvania and New York, and the sum of $8,000 is hereby authorized to be appropriated for this purpose. Puyallup River, Wash. Puyallup River, Washington, and the sum of $5,000 is hereby authorized to be appropriated for this purpose. Allegheny and Mononganela Rivers.*Proviso*.Contribution from Pennsylvania required. Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers, and the sum of $25,000 is hereby authorized to be appropriated for this purpose: *Provided*, That no money hereby authorized to be appropriated shall be expended unless and until assurances have been given satisfactory to the Secretary of War that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will contribute a like sum of $25,000 for the purpose of making the Expenditure authorized of sum received.survey hereby authorized; and the Secretary of War is hereby authorized to receive from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania such sum of $25,000 and to expend the same as the $25,000 hereby authorized to be appropriated may be expended.
