CHAP. 10.— An Act To authorize the widening of Fourth Street, south of Cedar Street northwest, in the District of Columbia, and for other purposes. December 13, 1924.[[S. 1343](/us/bill/68/s/1343).][[Public, No. 296](/us/68/pl/296).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, * District of Columbia.Fourth Street NW.Condemning land to widen.Vol. 34, p. 151. That under and in accordance with the provisions of subchapter 1 of chapter 15 of the Code of Law for the District of Columbia, within six months after the passage of this Act, the Commissioners of the District of Columbia be, and they are hereby, authorized and directed to institute in the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia a proceeding in rem to condemn the hind that may be necessary for the widening of Fourth Street immediately south of Cedar Street northwest to its full width of ninety feet, upon such lines as the Commissioners of the District of Columbia may deem best for the *Proviso*.Damages assessed as benefits.public interest: *Provided, however*, That of the entire amount found to be due and awarded by the jury in said proceedings as damages for and in respect of the land to be condemned for said Limit.widening plus the costs and expenses of the proceedings hereunder, not more than one-half thereof shall be assessed by the jury as benefits.
Sec. 2. Amount authorized for expenses and award. That there is hereby appropriated out of the revenues of the District of Columbia an amount sufficient to pay the necessary costs and expenses of the condemnation proceedings taken pursuant Repayment.hereto and for the amounts awarded as damages. The amounts assessed as benefits when collected shall be repaid to the District of Columbia and covered into the Treasury to the credit of the revenues of the District of Columbia.
