CHAP. 206.— An Act For the relief of John Burke, former Treasurer of the United States, for lost bonds without the fault or negligence on the part of said former Treasurer. June 3, 1922. [[H. R. 6523](/us/bill/67/hr/6523).] [[Private, No. 70](/us/pvtl/67/70).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, That the Secretary of theJohn Burke. Purchase, etc., of Liberty bonds to release liability of, for lost registered package containing, sent by Peoples National Bank, Hillsboro, Ill. *Ante*, p. 777.
Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized to pay the sum of $5,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for the purchase, at not more than par and accrued interest, of second Liberty loan converted 4¼ per centum bonds to the face amount of $5,000, and for the payment of an amount of interest equivalent to the interest of $5,000, face amount of such bonds from November 15, 1918, to the interest payment date next preceding the delivery of such bonds, for the purpose of the relief of John Burke, former Treasurer of the United States, on account of the loss of second Liberty loan converted 4¼ per centum coupon bonds numbered one million one hundred and forty-one thousand three hundred and twenty, one million one hundred and forty-one thousand three hundred and twenty-one, one million one hundred and forty-one thousand three hundred and twenty-two, one million one hundred and forty-one thousand three hundred and twenty-three, and one million one hundred and forty-one thousand three hundred and twenty-four, in the denomination of $1,000 each, contained in a sealed registered package forwarded to the Treasury Department by the Peoples National Bank, of Hills1592boro, Illinois, to be held as security for deposits of postal savings funds to be placed with said bank, which registered package containing said bonds was lost without fault on the part of the said John Burke, former Treasurer of the United States.
Lost registered pack age of bonds sent by First National Bank of Fairmount, N. Dak.That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized to pay the sum of $2,950, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for the purchase, at not more than par and accrued interest, of second Liberty loan bonds to the face amount of $2,700 and for the payment of an amount of interest equivalent to the interest on $2,700 face amount of such bonds from May 15, 1920, to the interest payment date next preceding the delivery of such bonds and the sum of $250, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to be used by the Secretary of the Treasury for the purchase, at not more than par and accrued interest, of third Liberty loan bonds to the face amount of $250 and for the payment of an amount of interest equivalent to the interest on $250 face amount of such third Liberty loan bonds from March 15, 1920, to the interest payment date next preceding the date of delivery of such bonds for the purpose of the relief of the Treasurer of the United States on account of the loss of second Liberty loan coupon bonds numbered twelve thousand six hundred and three, twelve thousand six hundred and four, twelve thousand six hundred and five, and three hundred and seventy-eight thousand seven hundred and one in denominations of $500 each, seven hundred and four thousand and eight, seven hundred and four thousand and twenty-four, eight hundred and thirty thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight, eight hundred and thirty thousand nine hundred and twenty two, two million and eighty-seven thousand five hundred and one, and two million eighty-seven thousand five hundred and fifteen in denominations of $100 each, one million two hundred and thirty thousand four hundred and twenty-four and one million two hundred and thirty thousand four hundred and twenty-five in denominations of $50 each, and third Liberty loan coupon bonds numbered three hundred and thirty-three thousand four hundred and eighty- one and three hundred and thirty-three thousand four hundred and eighty-two in denominations of $100 each, and six hundred and eight thousand one hundred and ninety-one in the denomination of $50, of the contents of a sealed registered package forwarded to the Treasury Department by the First National Bank of Fairmount, North Dakota, to be exchanged for registered bonds of like denominations, which registered package was lost without fault or negligence of John Burke, former Treasurer of the United States.
