CHAP. 46.— An Act To amend section 1 of an Act approved February 26, 1919, entitled “An Act to fix the salaries of the clerks of the United States district courts and to provide for their office expenses, and for other purposes.” February 11, 1921. [[S. 4891](/us/bill/66/s/4891).] [[Public, No. 304](/us/pl/66/304).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, * United States courts.Vol. 40, p. 1182, amended.
That section 1 of the Act approved February 26, 1919, entitled “An Act to fix the salaries of the clerks of the United States district courts and to provide for their office expenses, and for other purposes,” is hereby amended to read as follows: " “Section 1. That on and after the 1st day of July, 1918, all clerksClerks of district courts.Appointment. of the United States district courts shall be appointed by the judge for the district, or the senior judge if there be more than one judge in the district, and all fees and emoluments authorized by law to be paidFees, etc., to be paid into the Treasury. to the clerks of the United States district courts, except the clerks of the district courts of Alaska, shall be charged as heretofore and shall be collected, as far as possible, and paid into the Treasury of the United States in such manner and at such times as hereinafter provided;Salary in lieu of fees, etc. and such clerks shall be paid, in lieu of the fees and emoluments now allowed by law, an annual salary as hereinafter provided:*Proviso.*United States exempt from fees. *Provided, *That this section shall not be construed to require or authorize fees to be charged or collected from the United States.
